The Very Merry Perrys!
A coast-to-coast family adventure! 20
extended Perry family members came together from the west
and east coasts for a family vacation and picked WWW to
host them on the beautiful Rogue River!
Pat Perry, the family organizer emailed
us about his WWW trip, "We had forgotten so many of the
special things that identified us as 'us' in our younger
days. Over the years when we met for rushed family celebrations,
or weddings or busy vacations, we never seemed to find the
time to share ourselves, our kids' excitement, our laughs
about our past and our dreams and hopes for the future.
We all just seemed to be too busy…but then…
"One cousin talked to another and that
one to another…'remember how it was when we were teenagers
and we all camped in Yosemite? Why don't we have time for
that anymore?' And so the idea of a river trip seemed to
grow into the ideal way to reconnect. To find time to listen
to each other…to have fun…to not have to cook or clean…to
just enjoy each other and our kids.
"And in the end, the trip was magical.
We shared the stillness of the early morning with ducks
rustling among the reeds for food, watched the beauty of
ospreys searching for fish, giggled over the sounds of splashing
whitewater and thrilled to rapids that were never too hard
but always on the perfect edge of fun.
"For those of us who were older…what
did we find? That a river trip is the ultimate vacation
for a family. We had time for talking…listening…and remembering
what we had together and what we had valued about each other.
We shared growth in many of our children…even right before
our eyes in the space of only four river days. We found
our roots again, and we had the absolute most fun we have
had in ages.
"As soon as I got home I checked my
email. Four messages…one from each family, "Can we do this
again next year?" This was the finest family trip I have
ever been on…a sentiment shared by all who were there."
