Artist, Sandra Neary
Sandra, or Sandy, as
we know her, is one of those special people who walk into
your life and just plain make you smile. She, her husband
Mike, and their good friend, Sally Hass, have been WWW
regulars for many years.
Sandy's many personal
talents extend beyond just her Rogue River kayaking skills.
Quickly, she has honed her watercolor paintings to become
an accomplished artist. Sandy talks about her early painting
successes, "I sold a couple of paintings, which encouraged
me to do more. One success led to another. I quickly discovered
that the challenge of working with watercolor is as much
fun as the challenge of getting down a difficult rapid.
Both activities are entirely absorbing; demanding skill,
patience and finesse, and both activities require that
you either roll with the punches or swim out, dry off,
and try it again. How do you like that for a metaphor?"
Sandy, we like it and we like you too!
Sandy, Mike, and Sally
travel, usually with other friends, from the state of
Washington to join us most years. Sandy says, "WWW is
one of four outfitters we have used. WWW puts on one of
the nicest trips, in terms of comfort, food, gear, group
size and safety. I always know I'm going to gain some
pounds because the food is so good."
"One thing about the
Rogue over, for instance, the Salmon, is that it's an
easy day's drive away, so accessibility is a big factor.
The river offers more excitement but it is not so difficult
that I am uncomfortable on it. The Rogue is a challenge
to beginners but not boring to the advanced paddlers,
so we can come with friends of all levels. Also since
WWW can accommodate both rafters and kayakers, we invite
more friends along than we would on trips that might be
just one or the other. It's the friends and social fun
that get us on the river as much as the paddling does."
